ECU - Electronic Control Unit

In terminology of VW-group it's any electronic device, which has been carried out some logic function. Sometimes it looks like nonsens - even simple relay can be called ECU.

The coding of Electronic Control Unit used for explain the ECU where it is and what "neighbours" does it have. Very often on modern cars the coding is crossed with adaptation.

Adaptation of the Electronic Control Unit serves to explain to the ECU with whom and how to talk (If we have started to speak allegories) and serves as storehouse of various adjustable parameters. ( part of memory in the Control Unit which can be changed via internal software )

Measured Values Blocks ( MWB ) various parameters being inbound or calculated. Considering to value of MWB Electronic Control Unit, trying to "control"... Using of MWB allows you ( if you know the basic parameters ) to find out "close to boundary" or temporarily arising ( intermittent, sporadic ) malfunctions and many other useful things at competent use.

Function description, pin coding of memory control units

I The memory control units in the front seats are the same for the left and right.

I Address words 36 (driver's seat memory) and 06 (front passenger seat memory) are assigned by default at the factory by the wiring in the vehicle electrical system (pin coding, current application to different pins).

I The address words are also retained when the control unit or battery is disconnected.

I After replacing one control unit the new control unit (after ignition on) is automatically assigned the missing address word.

I If both control units happen to have the same address word despite this (e.g. due to swapping over), the control units cannot be addressed by self-diagnosis.

I The control units can then only be accessed when one of them is disconnected.

I By opening one door and operating the memory function you can identify which address word is in both control units. Ignition on and ignition off then driver's door open and both seats with memory function = address word 36. Front passenger door open and both seats with memory function = address word 06.

I Procedure if address word 36 in both control units.

J Ignition off

J Unplug all connectors between seat and vehicle body from both seats, except airbag.

J Ignition on, ignition off

J Connect only front passenger seat

J Ignition on

J Run program J136 - Seat memory control unit, adaption to front passenger

J Connect driver seat

J Interrogate and if necessary erase both fault memories

J Check functioning of seats

I Procedure if address word 06 in both control units.

J Ignition off

J Unplug all connectors between seat and vehicle body from both seats, except airbag.

J Ignition on, ignition off

J Connect only driver seat

J Ignition on

J Run program J521 - Seat memory control unit, adaption to front driver

J Connect front passenger seat

J Interrogate and if necessary erase both fault memories

J Check functioning of seats
