ECU - Electronic Control Unit

In terminology of VW-group it's any electronic device, which has been carried out some logic function. Sometimes it looks like nonsens - even simple relay can be called ECU.

The coding of Electronic Control Unit used for explain the ECU where it is and what "neighbours" does it have. Very often on modern cars the coding is crossed with adaptation.

Adaptation of the Electronic Control Unit serves to explain to the ECU with whom and how to talk (If we have started to speak allegories) and serves as storehouse of various adjustable parameters. ( part of memory in the Control Unit which can be changed via internal software )

Measured Values Blocks ( MWB ) various parameters being inbound or calculated. Considering to value of MWB Electronic Control Unit, trying to "control"... Using of MWB allows you ( if you know the basic parameters ) to find out "close to boundary" or temporarily arising ( intermittent, sporadic ) malfunctions and many other useful things at competent use.

Display group 001:

Display zone 1: Number of selector lever communication faults

The communication faults between the selector lever and the gearbox control unit -J217 since the last time the ignition was switched on.

Display zone 2: Selector lever initialisation bit

1 = Selector lever is initialised (duration ~100 msec)

0 = Selector lever initialisation complete

Display zone 3: Selector lever status

0 = Selector lever status transmitted

1 = Selector lever status information missing

Display zone 4: Selector lever reply bit 1 "

0 = Selector lever not sending data to gearbox control unit

1 = Selector lever sending data regularly

 

Display group 002:

Display zone 1: Sport button via drive train data bus

1 = Sport button pressed

0 = Sport button not pressed

 

Display group 003:

Display zone 3: Status of handbrake via convenience system data bus

Parking brake 1 = Handbrake applied

Parking brake 0 = Handbrake released

YZNote:

The position of the handbrake is evaluated by the convenience system central control unit -J393 and made available to other systems on the convenience system data bus.

 

 

Display group 004:

Display zone 1: Plausibility-checked selector lever position

The selector lever has two latching positions, U and X. From those positions, the following functions can be activated:

- From position U:

+ = Tiptronic upshift

- = Tiptronic downshift

A = Activate automatic

- From position X:

V = Intermediate position

R = Engage reverse gear.

/ = Fault in position detection

Display zone 2: Engaged gear

1 -6 = Engaged gear

N = Neutral

R = Reverse

/ = Invalid position

Display zone 3: Status of brake light switch plausibility-checked

The brake light switch signal at pin 69 of the gearbox control unit is compared with the brake light switch signal over the drive train data bus and plausibility-checked.

1 = Brake press, brake light switch (BLS) or CAN signal detected.

0 = Brake unpressed

Display zone 4: Status of shift lock

When the shift lock is active the gearbox control unit performs no gearshifts.

1 = Shift lock active

0 = Shift lock inactive

YZNote:

The selector lever has no mechanical lock.

 

Display group 005:

Display zone 1: Road speed from ABS control unit

Display zone 2: Plausibility-checked engine speed

YZNote:

The engine speed at pin 48 of the gearbox control unit is compared with the engine speed signal over the drive train data bus and plausibility-checked.

 

Display group 006:

Display zone 1: Status of starter enable

1 = Starter enabled

If the gearbox meets the conditions for engine start, the starter is enabled via pin 42 (P-N signal) for 10 seconds.

 

Display group 007:

Display zone 1: Activation of hydraulic pump relay -J510

1 = Relay activated, hydraulic pump on

0 = Hydraulic pump off

Display zone 2: Temperature of hydraulic pump (calculated)

YZNote: The temperature is based on an arithmetic model.

Display zone 3: Hydraulic pressure via G270

Specified range: 35 - 55 bar

 

Display group 008:

Display zone 1: Status of gear selection valve 1 -N284

N284 - Gear selection valve 1 is a solenoid valve, and enables the shift gate to be selected.

1 = Solenoid valve activated

0 = Solenoid valve not activated

Display zone 2: Current consumption of gear selection valve 3 -N286

The valve works as a pressure regulating valve, engaging the odd gears and reverse.

Display zone 3: Current consumption of gear selection valve 2 -N285

The valve works as a pressure regulating valve, engaging the even gears and neutral.

Display zone 4: Current consumption of clutch adjuster valve -N255

YZNote: When not activated, the clutch is fully closed.

 

Display group 009:

Display zone 2: Amplitude of current injection at valve 3 -N286

Display zone 3: Amplitude of current injection at valve 2 -N285

Display zone 4: Amplitude of current injection at clutch valve -N255

 

YZNote: To avoid abrasion in the pressure regulating valve, an alternating current is overlaid over the activation current.

 

Display group 010:

Display zone 1: Clutch wear index

The wear index of the clutch since the last time the clutch adaption was reset. This value increases over the running time of the clutch. Higher values indicate more advanced wear.

Display zone 2: Position of clutch slip point, 0 Nm transmission

The clutch slip point is the so-called <kiss point> at which the clutch is closed but no power is yet being transmitted (0 Nm).

Display zone 3: Position: clutch fully closed (currently)

Point at which the clutch is fully closed (not actuated) for the current driving cycle.

Display zone 4: Position: clutch fully closed (predecessor)

Point at which the clutch is fully closed, determined in the previous driving cycle.

 

Display group 011:

Display zone 1: clutch position - G476 (actual)

Display zone 3: Clutch position (specified)

Display zone 4: Clutch temperature (calculated)

At temperatures above 200C, in gear 1 the clutch is closed quickly. Above 300C the clutch opens, accompanied by a warning on the dash.

YZNote: The temperature is based on an arithmetic model.

 

Display group 012:

Display zone 1: Adapted longitudinal position for reverse gear

YZNote: In the shift actuator the position of the shift shaft in longitudinal direction is measured via the gear recognition sensor -G604.

Display zone 2: Adapted rotational position for reverse gear

YZNote: In the shift actuator the position of the shift shaft in the direction of rotation is measured via the gear recognition sensor -G616.

Display zone 3: Longitudinal position of shift shaft (actual)

YZNote: In the shift actuator the position of the shift shaft in longitudinal direction is measured via the gear recognition sensor -G604.

Display zone 4: Rotational position of shift shaft (actual)

YZNote: In the shift actuator the position of the shift shaft in the direction of rotation is measured via the gear recognition sensor -G616.

 

Display group 013:

Display zone 1: Adapted longitudinal position for neutral

Display zone 2: Adapted rotational position for neutral

 

Display group 014:

Display zone 1: Adapted longitudinal position for gear 1

Display zone 2: Adapted rotational position for gear 1

Status of terminal 15 (12V) at pin 28 of gearbox control unit -J217.

Display zone 2: Term.30 (main supply voltage)

Display zone 3: Status term.50 (pin 76)

Status of terminal 50 (12V on engine start) at pin 76 of gearbox control unit -J217. The terminal 50 signal is generated by the steering column electronics control unit -J527 at the engine start ignition key position.

Display zone 4: Supply voltage for gear recognition sensors

The voltage measured here corresponds to the supply voltage at pin 73 (specified: 4.7-5.3V). Gear recognition sensors 1 and 2 G604/G616 receive their supply voltage via this connection.

 

Display group 023:

Display zone 1: Status of gearshift

When a gearshift is initiated, the status changes for one second from 0 to 1.

Display zone 4: Clutch status

The current status of the clutch is indicated:

0 = Open

1 = Controlled slip

2 = Fully closed

3 = Fault.

 

Display group 024:

Display zone 1: Status of engine management

On moving off, the gearbox control unit intervenes in the engine management.

1 = Intervention active

0 = No intervention in engine management.

Display zone 2: Requested engine torque to drive off.

Display zone 3: Requested engine speed to drive off.

Display zone 4: Clutch torque to drive off.

 

Display group 025:

Display zone 4: Status of engine emergency off

If there is a fault in the gearbox control unit or in the hydraulic system requiring the engine to be switched off, in the event of a serious fault in the hydraulic system or the gearbox control unit the engine is switched off at speeds below 20 km/h.

 

Display group 026:

Display zone 1: Gearbox input speed -G182

Display zone 3: Discrete engine speed (pin 48)

Display zone 4: Engine speed via drive train data bus

 

Display group 027:

Display zone 2: Status of driver's door wake-up signal (pin 78)

YZNote: When the driver's door is opened the onboard power supply control unit -J519 generates a pulse signal to start pre-supply by way of a relay. The pulse signal is generated a maximum of every 30 minutes.

The status changes for 5 seconds from 0 to 1 when the signal is detected.

 

Display group 028:

Display zone 3: Status brake light switch (pin 69)

Signal from brake light switch at pin 69 of gearbox control unit.

1 = high (12 V)

0 = low (0 V)

 

Display group 125:

1 = Communication over CAN OK.

0 = No CAN connection

Display zone 1: Communication engine control unit

Display zone 2: Communication onboard power supply control unit (ignition lock)

Display zone 3: Communication diagnostic interface (gateway)

Display zone 4: Communication selector lever

 

Display group 126:

1 = Communication over CAN OK.

0 = No CAN connection

Display zone 1: Communication brakes (ABS)

Display zone 2: Communication dash panel insert
