ECU - Electronic Control Unit

In terminology of VW-group it's any electronic device, which has been carried out some logic function. Sometimes it looks like nonsens - even simple relay can be called ECU.

The coding of Electronic Control Unit used for explain the ECU where it is and what "neighbours" does it have. Very often on modern cars the coding is crossed with adaptation.

Adaptation of the Electronic Control Unit serves to explain to the ECU with whom and how to talk (If we have started to speak allegories) and serves as storehouse of various adjustable parameters. ( part of memory in the Control Unit which can be changed via internal software )

Measured Values Blocks ( MWB ) – various parameters being inbound or calculated. Considering to value of MWB Electronic Control Unit, trying to "control"... Unit number: The part number is adopted from the vehicle system.

e.g.    4E0910156

          8E0910156

 

Unit identifier: A text with a system name and the identification of the data level, including the software version, is transferred from the vehicle system.

e.g.    AG6 09E 4.2l5V RoW 0030

          V30 01J 3.0l5V RoW 0050

          AG6 09E 3.7l5V USA 0060

          AG6 09L 4.2l5V USA 0010

 

Unit coding type: Type of unit coding result. This result identifies whether the vehicle system is a system with "long coding".

0 means vehicle system not codable

3 means vehicle system codable after week 2000 light plus

16 means vehicle system with long coding codable

All other readouts mean that the vehicle system is delivering an undefined value

 

Unit coding: Coding value with which the automatic gearbox control unit -J217 is coded.

- Check coding in test program J217 - Automatic gearbox, coding (Rep.Gr. 38), or J217 - Multitronic, coding (Rep.Gr.38), or similar

 

Unit code: The 5-digit unit code indicates the VAS505x with which the vehicle system was last coded.
