Logic of naming sensors in VW-group is simple it contains "G" (german "Geber") + sensor number. The sensor number is unique. Here you can find fitting location, connectors and pins description, some information about sensors signals.

To our mind, sensors information is reference, so there is only simple search by sensor number.

Seat occupancy sensor rear, passenger side -G178

The rear seat occupied sensor, passenger side -G178 is located under the seat cover in the centre rear area of the seat cushion underneath the backrest. The seat occupancy recognition is implemented by a pressure-sensitive foil (Interlink). It is worked into the fabric and bonded to the seat upholstery.

The rear seat occupied sensor, passenger side -G178 improves the energy management by ensuring that, even when the rear seat heating is switched on, current is only applied to it when the rear seat occupied sensor, passenger side -G178 detects a distributed load of more than 6 kg.

The rear seat occupied sensor, passenger side -G178 has self-diagnosis capability. A relevant fault entry is made in the rear Climatronic control unit -E265.

The rear seat occupied sensor, passenger side -G178 is connected under the seat cover to the seat heating wiring harness, but can be removed and installed separately.

 

MN Important

When removing and fitting the seat cover for replacement of the rear seat occupied sensor, passenger side -G178

follow the safety precautions for working on airbags!

Do not underfill the seat padding in the area of the side airbag, so as not to change the seat contours!
