Sensors

Logic of naming sensors in VW-group is simple it contains "G" (german "Geber") + sensor number. The sensor number is unique. Here you can find fitting location, connectors and pins description, some information about sensors signals.

To our mind, sensors information is reference, so there is only simple search by sensor number.

Audi A6 2005 > Checking ambient temperature sender G17

General information on the ambient temperature sender G17:

The sender temperature data are displayed in measured value block 4 - positions 2 and 4. At temperatures above +60C and below -40C a value of -50C is displayed in measured value block 4. But there is then no fault memory entry on the dash panel insert.

If there is a short to sensor earth in the signal wire of the temperature sender, the fault "Short to earth" is entered in the fault memory. Measured value block 4 position 2 then displays the value -50C.

If there is an open circuit on the signal wire and/or the temperature sender earth, the fault "Open circuit/short to positive" is entered in the fault memory. Measured value block 4 position 2 then displays the value -50C.

Test instructions :

Resistance tests after the following operating data

at -20C = 9951.0 ???tolerance +665??/ -661?)

at 0C = 3281.0 ??(tolerance +161? / -161?)

at +20C = 1250.0 ? (tolerance +35 ??/ -36??)

at +40C = 533.0 ? (tolerance +20 ??/ -21??)
